Cut the greed, not the green

Van Mahotsav ‘the festival of trees’ is an annual one-week tree planting festival held in the first week of July. It is celebrated across India, as it is believed to be the right time for planting trees as it coincides with the Indian monsoon season.

The celebration of Van Mahotsav observed in Carmel English Medium Higher Primary School Kotekar on 13th of July 2023 to spread awareness of forest conservation and to save the environment. It is an ideal opportunity to instill personal and social responsibility in our students towards safeguarding trees and forests. The focus of this celebration is towards forming a personal connect between the students and trees through a process of experience, reflection and creation.

The day commenced thanking God for the blessing of nature which sustains our life. The occasion was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Mrs. Sunila, the school Counsellor, Sr. Jacintha D’sa A.C The Principal, and Sr. Anitha Dsouza A.C The Vice Principal of the school. The programme began with planting a sapling by the chief guest Mrs.Sunila and the principal Sr. Jacintha D’sa A.C.

Alvita of Grade VII A accorded a cheerful welcome.Raniya Fathima highlighted the significance of the day. Students welcomed the gathering with theirrhythmic steps.

A short drama and mime- show was staged by the students which unraveled the truth of how difficult it will be to sustain the earth without trees. Quiz was conducted to informthe studentsabout the history of Van Mahotsav.

The chief guest addressed the gathering by enlightening the students about the need to plant trees. Van Mahotsav day is an important occasion to raise awareness about the benefits of trees and to encourage people to become more active in environment conversation efforts. Also stressed that it is the responsibility of every citizen to grow and protect trees.

The students of Grade VII A hosted the programme under the guidance of Mrs. Shrikala. The Programme was compered by Ahana and Nidhi R Shetty of Grade VII A. The entire audience was influenced by their scintillating performance. Manaswi proposed the vote of thanks.
