Carmel English Medium School Kotekar, CBSE, hosted a memorable Grandparents’ Day in the school, bringing together students’ grandparents and staff for a heartwarming event. The occasion was marked by the presence of Mrs. Harinakshi Kolya, a retired teacher as the Chief Guest.
The event began with a prayer song, invoking God's blessings and creating a serene atmosphere. This was followed by a formal welcome speech by Kashvik, who warmly greeted the grandparents and other attendees. A welcome dance was then performed, symbolizing the respect and love that grandparents deserve. The dance was thoughtfully themed around parents, highlighting the deep bond between generations.
A skit presented by the students was a thought-provoking part of the programme, encouraging the audience to reflect on the importance of family values and the wisdom that grandparents bring into the lives of their grandchildren. The vibrant theme-based dance that followed added color and energy to the event, showcasing cultural diversity and joy.
Mrs. Harinakshi Kolya the Chief Guest, addressing more than one hundred grandparents who were present, emphasized the importance of respecting elders. She spoke about the shift from joint families, where many members cared for each other, to nuclear families, where such support systems have dwindled. She stressed the importance of controlling one’s anger in all situations, finding happiness within, and not depending on others for joy. She also encouraged the grandparents to engage in activities such as daily walk, yoga, and meditation to maintain their health and well-being. She reassured them that being senior citizens should not be a reason for sadness; instead, they should find happiness in their children and grandchildren.
The programme included a few exciting games for the grandparents, adding an element of fun and interaction. Each grandparent was presented with a token of love, expressing the school’s appreciation for their invaluable role in the family.
Students of Class 4th C performed a meaningful programme, highlighting the talents and creativity of the younger generation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Harshali and Rimsha Raj, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the celebration. Hemanshu and Shazeen compered the programme skillfully guiding the audience through the day’s events.
