Carmel English Medium Higher Primary School CBSE, Kotekar, held an informative Tobacco Awareness Program on June 1, 2024, in anticipation of World No Tobacco Day, which is observed annually on May 31. The theme for this year was "Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference." The program aimed to educate students about the dangers of tobacco use and strategies for prevention. Dr. Bindu Rani, a renowned counselor at the Link De-addiction Centre, Bajal, led the session, providing valuable information and guidance on this critical issue.
Dr. Bindu Rani delivered a compelling presentation covering various aspects of tobacco awareness, including the health risks associated with tobacco use. She emphasized the manipulative tactics used by the tobacco industry to target young people and stressed the importance of protecting children from such interference. The initiative emphasized in providing resources to help individuals quit smoking, including counseling and nicotine replacement therapies. Aimed to reduce the global toll of tobacco use and improve public health outcomes.
Throughout the session, students actively participated by asking questions and sharing their thoughts, underscoring their engagement and the importance of such educational initiatives. At the conclusion of the session, the students and staff collectively took an oath to stay away from tobacco and to promote a tobacco-free environment among their peers and community.
